I’m Definitely Ready for Spring!

The GOOD NEWS: we have more hours of daylight as summer approaches…

The weather has been a bit warmer… Some of our snow has melted. This was the view of our street yesterday…

In front of our house, there was a bare strip down the middle - and our driveway was free of ice.

The BAD NEWS: Our forecast for the next week includes cloudy days, snow and rain…

I woke up to find everything covered with snow again…

Next week is spring break.  We know people who are heading south to warmer temperatures…

All this to say - I’m really ready for spring!

Which Patriots Books Doesn’t He Have?!!

Terry’s favorite sport is football - and his favorite team is the New England Patriots…

So whenever a birthday - or Christmas - comes along, one of our sons gives him a book about his favorite team…

Here’s his collection… He’s read them all!

Looking ahead to the next Father’s Day or birthday, the kids are already asking: Which book about the team doesn’t he have?!

This is it, guys! You’ve kept him well supplied!

Newspaper Surprise

A few days ago, Terry and I headed out for a drive to Almonte.

We haven’t been there in months.

We walked along a snowy bike path - formerly a train bridge - that crossed the frozen river.

At the old city hall - where public restrooms are often open - we picked up the latest edition of local news and events.

When we got home, I noticed the cover art … and story…

The artist’s name sounded vaguely familiar… though I didn’t recognize his face.

Was this the same young man I remember from Knox Presbyterian Church on Elgin Street, the church we attended when we lived downtown? (Forty years ago!) If so, I remember his parents well…

After reading his bio, I realized it was!

All these years later, one of his daughters has a tea house in Almonte, across the street from the old city hall, where his drawings will be on display in mid-March. (It’s called Tea and Cake Catering.)

We definitely must visit!

Spring Snow

Yesterday we awoke to fluffy fresh snow…

(The kind that is popular in postcards!)

Will this be our last snowfall of the season?!

I’m ready for spring! (So I hope so!)

New House

A few days ago, Terry and I headed out into the country for a “field trip” of sorts…

We were curious to see a house that one of our sons is planning to move into.

We were lucky: The builder was there and offered to show us around…

What a tranquil place to live!

A Taste of Warmth

Yesterday we had our first taste of spring!

The weather, around noon was 6 degrees Celsius (42 degrees F)…

And the forecast indicated that the temperature would rise to 10 (49F)

Terry was outside in his spring rain jacket…without a winter hat on!

There was too much ice on the driveway and street out front for me to venture out…

But there was also a strong wind warning! Power outages - from falling tree limbs? - are possible…

I guess we’ll have to wait a while for balmy spring breezes!

But the forecast does predict above freezing weather for 5 days this coming week! That should melt some ice and snow.

I can’t wait for our driveway and road to be free of ice so that I can go out walking again!

Orchid Beginning to Bloom

In her nursing home days, my mother had an orchid that was ALWAYS in bloom..,

My orchid - also in a north-facing window - hasn’t bloomed for months. It has lots of buds, but only two flowers…

Is it waiting for the right TIME?! Or is our home TOO COLD?!

(The two flowers appeared while our son’s family was visiting… Did we turn up the heat a bit then?!

Our home during these cold winter days definitely DOESN’T feel like the tropics!
