Glad to Help!!

My son recently messaged me a Google Meet link to a meeting he was planning to join…

Mom, could you join the meeting to test the mic on my earbuds? I want to make sure they’re working properly.

Yikes! Glad to help… but I’ve never done that before!

(What if I accidentally join the real meeting?!)

It ended well: I was able to give quick feedback - and I didn’t join the actual meeting! (I guess no one shows up early at virtual meetings either.)

Early Raking

Early spring is my favorite time for working outdoors in the yard…

Why?!

No bugs!!

A few days ago I spent several hours raking pine cones, pine needles, dead branches and other winter debris out of our front flower beds. Terry and I managed to fill 5 garbage bins. The next day, 7 more!

Lawn care can wait… It was fun to be working outdoors again!

Canadian “Wordle”?!

My daughter and I play the daily online “Wordle” game and share our results. (It’s not really a competition…)

I look forward to the challenge of guessing each days’s five-letter word (in six guesses).

Now I’ve discovered there’s also a Canadian version called “Canuckle” - created by a local Ottawa man.

The first time I googled it, and chose what I thought was the game, I was informed I had contracted a computer virus and needed protection.

I immediately exited that site without touching any links. I always assume messages like that originate with someone whose trying to GIVE me a computer virus.

I googled the game again and this time chose a CTV article about the game, on March 2, 2022, then clicked the link IN the story - and safely arrived at the game - without any threatening messages.

The game focuses on words that are “Canadian.”

(I didn’t know we had enough Canadian words  to keep a game like this going!)

New Way to Monitor My Blood Sugar

I have Type 2 Diabetes and have been pricking my finger daily to monitor my blood sugar levels for s long time now. I do it once a day - early in the morning before I eat or drink anything. This “fasting glucose reading” is a basic measure of how well I’m doing in trying to control my blood sugar levels.

I was recently offered a new monitoring system - an adhesive patch (with a needle) that stays in my arm for 14 days at a time.

I agreed to give it a try.

Here it is on my arm…

I can now use an app on my cell phone to check my glucose readings numerous times a day.

This will give me more information…

But that in itself is a little frightening. In theory, it will help me monitor food and exercise to improve my health…

But what if the information isn’t what I want to hear?

(Sometimes ignorance is bliss!)

Muskrats in Andrew Haydon Park

There is one slow-moving stream in Ottawa’s Andrew Haydon Park where Terry and I have stopped to watch turtles swimming, on one occasion - and frogs croaking and jumping, on another.

I wonder if there are any turtles around, I commented to Terry as we approached  the edge of the stream…

No turtles or frogs this time, but… “What’s that?!”  Terry asked, pointing…

That looks like a rat. I didn’t know rats swam…

Maybe that’s a MUSKRAT!

Eventually it crawled into a hole under the reeds.

When we got home, I googled “muskrats”… Now I’m certain that’s what we saw!

Andrew Haydon Park in Early April

Terry and I recently went walking in Andrew Haydon Park, in Ottawa’s west end.

We hadn’t been there all winter long.

It was good to be back!

Most of the snow was gone  …

Though there was ice on the river - and on park ponds.

The air was cool but refreshing.

Beautiful any season of the year!!

The Ducks Are Back!

It’s not unusual to see ducks in our neighbourhood in spring.

I spied my first one on a neighbour’s roof a few days ago…

Since then, I’ve seen them in Earl and Mary’s yard - where they can find food and water…

Later a squirrel joined the party!

I love to live among small feathered (or furry) friends - but am less enthusiastic about the (larger) groundhogs, raccoons and coyotes that sometimes show up in our neighborhood!
